When I was first offered the opportunity to review I DO 3D, I thought that this was a 3D printing pen. It is not. However, it IS lots of fun. My daughter is 7 years old and was really, REALLY, (and I mean really) excited when we received this in the mail. She saw the dinosaur on the back and immediately wanted to make that one. I thought that maybe would should try something a little bit easier.
When we opened the box, we saw that there was a light, stencil sheet, plastic sheet, as well as 4 pens. We received 2 red pens, 1 yellow, and 1 green. The pens in this kit are enough to make about 20 projects. The batteries were easy to install in the light. The pens were also easy to open, and switching the caps from shipping caps to writing caps was easy as well.
We decided to try to make the flower in the pot first. Since we had no experience with this product or anything like it, we wanted to try an easier project. So we placed down our plastic sheet onto the stencil area, picked a color to start with and we were ready to go! The gallery below shows our experience building the flower pot.
This was quite time consuming, but not in a bad way. It took time for the product to dry on the sheet (30 to 60 seconds with the light), and you have to do that piece by piece. It took about an hour for us to build the flower in the pot. It does take practice to get it right, and I am glad we started with the easier project. I think I DO 3D is well suited to kids who have a little bit of patience, and who like intricate and detailed projects. I also think I DO 3D is AWESOME for working on fine motor skills. This would make an excellent present for the upcoming holiday season! My daughter asks to use this almost every day, and that makes it a hit in our house!
